The IBCLC examination is offered twice a year, in March/April (in English only) and in September (in all IBLCE languages).

March 2023 IBCLC examination:

Application Dates: October 21 – December 5, 2022
Examination Administration Dates: March 8 – 17, 2023

Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) -or- sitting the examination at a test centre.

Once you have submitted your application for the April/May 2021 examination, you don’t need to contact IBLCE to let us know about your examination modality preference if it is different from what you submitted on the application.  When you schedule your appointment with the testing vendor you are able to select whether you want to sit at a test centre or take it via Live Remote Proctoring. Examination authorisation emails for the April/May 2021 examination administration are expected to go out in March.

Reminder: New Eligibility Requirements in 2021

There are several new eligibility criteria for both initial candidates and recertifying IBCLCs beginning in 2021:


2020 IBCLC Examination

Examination Details for March/April and September 2020 IBCLC Examination Candidates 

Updated Examination Dates: September 8-25, 2020  

Expected window for examination appointment scheduling: July – August 2020  

Please wait to reach out to IBLCE’s testing vendor until after you have received your Examination Authorisation Email from IBLCE with instructions for scheduling. Contacting them before you have the email may result in difficulties with scheduling your appointment.

Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) -or- sitting the examination at a test centre.
